“GarasuNoShiCon is a convention celebrating Japanese animation and the culture of fans. This is a fancy, PR-style way of saying a gathering of like-minded nerds who sit around, watch anime, dress up as their favorite characters, and buy things. Admission is free and it’s open to anyone!”

“Anime Expo is an annual convention, held in 2010 on July 1 – 4, at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Anime Expo has grown in scale dramatically, and is currently the largest anime and manga convention in North America.
Popular large events include the Masquerade, Anime Music Video Contest, Concerts, Battle of the Bands, and the “AX Idol” contest. Anime Expo is a 24-hour convention that offers late-night dances, all night video programming, tabletop gaming rooms, and open-mic Karaoke in the late evening/early morning hours. Many of the attendees cosplay while attending the convention, and there are many gatherings for fans of different anime and manga series.”

MediaWest*Con traditionally features the Art Show and Auction, Fanzine Reading Room, Fannish Videos, Masquerade, Dealers’ Room, Fan Quality Awards, Fan Fund, both a Con Suite (AKA Hospitality Suite) and a Party Suite, and many, many, panels on a wide variety of topics representing many areas of interest. Programming is determined by member input and participation. We have no official guests.”

“For many of you this is your first exposure to our convention. NakamaCon was from its first conception to be a convention that literally means “A circle of friends”. The focus is to meet new people, expand your fannish base and have fun. In Wisconsin there are several conventions, but none of them cater to the specific fandoms we wanted to. So starting in 2010 Madison Wisconsin will have a convention that will be an Anime / Anthropomorphic / Steam Punk event. The best part is since we are centrally located states like Illinois, Michigan, Iowa, and Minnesota are all just a little ways away.”

Parking is not free during the entire weekend any more in downtown Calgary, most of the board and committee who will be driving will be parking at the James Short Parkade, just two blocks down 5th Avenue. Their rates are, at the time of this writing, $4 for evenings and weekends. (Evenings is considered after 4PM).

“Celebrating Science Fiction and Fantasy literature and art are the staple of Conestoga, but many who are interested in Horror, Sci-Fi, Anime, and Comics attend. Popular activities at the convention include filking (filk singing is a play on folk) and gaming.”

“To complement the panel discussions, Confluence also has a full slate of art demos by several very accomplished artists, and entertainment items that span the spectrum from poetry readings to filk concerts to the annual farce presented by the Parallax Second Players. Never a dull moment, but if you need a break you can’t go wrong by spending some time in our well-provisioned consuite chatting with guests and other members.

The basics are that the con will begin with an opening of on-site registration at Noon on Friday, September 18th, and close for general operation at approximately 3pm on Sunday, September 20th. You won’t want to miss anything from Opening Ceremonies and Meet the Guests on Friday to the Dead Dog party (no actual dogs) on Sunday.
