“MediaWest*Con is the definitive gathering of Science Fiction/Media fandom, held each Memorial Day Weekend in Lansing, Michigan. MediaWest*Con is…a celebration of the diversity of SF/Media fandom, run by fans, for fans, and is staffed entirely by volunteers. MediaWest*Con traditionally features the Art Show and Auction, Fanzine Reading Room, Fannish Videos, Masquerade, Dealers’ Room, Fan Quality Awards, Fan Fund, both a Con Suite (AKA Hospitality Suite) and a Party Suite, and many, many, panels on a wide variety of topics representing many areas of interest. Programming is determined by member input and participation. We have no official guests.”

Saturday: Steam Century Game and Tea Party.
Who wants to be an anime millionaire.
Panels include; SteamPunk Books, Leather Working for costumes, and Learning & Living Japanese.
“For many of you this is your first exposure to our convention. NakamaCon was from its first conception to be a convention that literally means “A circle of friends”. The focus is to meet new people, expand your fannish base and have fun. In Wisconsin there are several conventions, but none of them cater to the specific fandoms we wanted to. So starting in 2010 Madison Wisconsin will have a convention that will be an Anime / Anthropomorphic / Steam Punk event. The best part is since we are centrally located states like Illinois, Michigan, Iowa, and Minnesota are all just a little ways away.”

The City of Roswell invites UFO enthusiasts and skeptics alike to join in the celebration of one of the most debated incidents in history. The four-day event will feature guest speakers, authors, live entertainment, a costume contest, parade, family-friendly activities and more.
“In early July, 1947, a mysterious object crashed on a ranch 30 miles north of Roswell. The Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF) issued a statement claiming to have recovered a crashed “flying disk.” An article ran on the front page of the Roswell Daily Record and the next day, RAAF changed its statement to say that the object was a weather balloon, not a flying disk as they previously reported. This revised statement sparked immediate controversy and has continued to be a topic of debate more than 60 years later.”
Three Diplomacy Rounds and Open Gaming
Cost: $30 per person, and $30 per night lodging
What the event is primarily known for is the unlimited style of play. Whereas most tournaments by design or necessity end Diplomacy games after a certain number of hours or game-years, at Dixiecon the games end only when someone wins or every player left on the table votes to end the game in concession or win. At the dorm is a basketball court and swimming pool, which are open to Dixiecon attendees. Come early on Friday afternoon and play some hoops before Round One with a bunch of out-of-shape Dip players.
“Dixiecon is the longest-running Diplomacy tournament on the East Coast, featuring three rounds of Diplomacy and all the open boardgaming you can shake a stick at! Come to the tournament that has been the scene of thrilling Diplomacy gaming since 1987…! The tournament is held at Granville Towers, a private dorm adjacent to the UNC campus, and directly on the main business street in Chapel Hill, Franklin Street.”

“The Toronto Comic Arts Festival exists to promote the breadth and diversity of comics, and what is considered comics, as legitimate medium of literary and artistic worth. The Toronto Comic Arts Festival is a unique comics event, patterned after comics festivals like Angouleme, Harlem, and the Small Press Expo. It is two full days of comics-related events, including readings, presentations, panel discussions, gallery shows, and a large exhibition area featuring publishers and comic authors and artists. We like to describe it as ‘unconventional’.”
