If that isn’t enough for your senses, there are also exhibits from major companies showcasing their latest products and the largest retailer area of its kind where you can buy that limited edition item or that something special you’ve always wanted. Parking is not free during the entire weekend any more in downtown Calgary, most of the board and committee who will be driving will be parking at the James Short Parkade, just two blocks down 5th Avenue. Their rates are, at the time of this writing, $4 for evenings and weekends. (Evenings is considered after 4PM).

The Toronto Comic Arts Festival is a unique comics event, patterned after comics festivals like Angouleme, Harlem, and the Small Press Expo. It is two full days of comics-related events, including readings, presentations, panel discussions, gallery shows, and a large exhibition area featuring publishers and comic authors and artists. We like to describe it as ‘unconventional’.”

VCON is organized by a subcommittee of the West Coast Science Fiction Association — a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement and understanding of science fiction and fantasy fan culture in Vancouver BC and its environs.

“Ai-Kon is a three-day event held during the summer, which runs around the clock from start to finish. Thanks to the diverse range of anime fans in the area, with each passing year we’ve been able to host panels and other events covering more ground in other semi-related areas, from Japanese Tea Ceremony and Aikido demonstrations from the Manitoba Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre to panels discussing the finer points of Go and ball-jointed dolls. Ai-Kon is now run by a nonprofit organization consisting of an independent board of volunteers who are dedicated to making the convention a memorable time for all who attend…”
